Be Well Be Here and the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library present Writing as an Act of Humanity with Yung Pueblo on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum, Main Library. Be Present with author, poet, philosopher and mindful educator Diego Perez, known by 2.3 million Instagram followers as Yung Pueblo will discuss his brand new book, Lighter, as well as share mindful wisdom that inspires us all to seek ease, engage in Radical Honesty, cultivate caring relationships and show up for one another for the benefit of us all. The annual Leslie Riedel Memorial Lecture for Young People will present Concord author Rajani LaRocca on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum, Main Library. The lecture series was created in memory of Leslie Riedel by her family and friends so that young people could meet some of their favorite authors. Past speakers of the series include children's authors/illustrators David Macaulay, Chris Van Allsburg, Jerry Pinkney, Lois Lowry, Tomie dePaola, Grace Lin, Katherine Paterson, Kate DiCamillo and Robert Sabuda. The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library will present the 2022 Ruth Ratner Miller Award to Sean Wilentz on Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum of the Main Library. The event will kick off this year's Concord Festival of Authors (October 13 - 31). Sean Wilentz is the George Henry Davis 1886 Professor of American History at Princeton University. His primary research interests include U.S. social and political history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Tickets for the in-person event are $15 ($5 for students). They can be purchased (cash or check only) at the Barrow Bookstore or (using cash, check or PayPal) at the Main Library's Circulation Desk. The event can also be watched live on Zoom free of charge. The Trustees of the Concord Free Public Library Corporation are proud to officially dedicate the new Goodwin Forum with very special guest Doris Kearns Goodwin. The Goodwin Forum, named in honor of Doris Kearns Goodwin and Richard Goodwin, is a multi-use programming space that will foster civic engagement, historical scholarship, intellectual growth, and a love of learning. This "hybrid" event will take place on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum and on Zoom. Registration for the in-person option is full.
