The annual Leslie Riedel Memorial Lecture for Young People will present children's author Robert Sabuda on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom. The lecture series was created in memory of Leslie Riedel by her family and friends so that young people could meet some of their favorite authors. Past speakers of the series include children's authors/illustrators David Macaulay, Chris Van Allsburg, Jerry Pinkney, Lois Lowry, Tomie dePaola, Grace Lin, Katherine Paterson and Kate DiCamillo. The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library will present the 2021 Ruth Ratner Miller Award to Heather Cox Richardson on Saturday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom. The event will kick off this year's Concord Festival of Authors (October 15 - 31). Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. In this 60 minute program, the EMK Institute instructors will lead the audience to explore how the U.S. government is structured under the Constitution and the division of powers among the branches, discuss the traditions and norms that have guided the work of elected officials, as well as political figures who have broken with established practices and set new norms through their actions. The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library Annual Book Sale will take place on Satruday, September 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on the Main Library front lawn. The proceeds from the Book Sales fund the Library's Children's programming, large print and audio-visual collections, eBooks, museum passes, Friends author talk, film, poetry and music series, and more. Covid-19 safety note: While the Book Sale is an outdoor event, if you are not fully vaccinated we ask that you please wear a face mask at the event. Please remember to give each other space.
