The annual Leslie Riedel Memorial Lecture for Young People will present Concord author Rajani LaRocca on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum, Main Library. The lecture series was created in memory of Leslie Riedel by her family and friends so that young people could meet some of their favorite authors. Past speakers of the series include children's authors/illustrators David Macaulay, Chris Van Allsburg, Jerry Pinkney, Lois Lowry, Tomie dePaola, Grace Lin, Katherine Paterson, Kate DiCamillo and Robert Sabuda. The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library will present the 2022 Ruth Ratner Miller Award to Sean Wilentz on Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum of the Main Library. The event will kick off this year's Concord Festival of Authors (October 13 - 31). Sean Wilentz is the George Henry Davis 1886 Professor of American History at Princeton University. His primary research interests include U.S. social and political history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Tickets for the in-person event are $15 ($5 for students). September 24 – 30, 2022 is Climate Preparedness Week. This year's theme is The Planet’s Health and Yours: Facing the Invisible Impact of Climate Change. Climate Preparedness Week is held every year at the end of September to raise awareness and provide educational programs to help prepare communities for extreme weather events. Concord Ag Day presents a bluegrass concert with Tader Shipley and Maxfield Anderson on Saturday, September 10, 2022, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the Main Library front lawn. In honor of Juneteenth Day, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. in our Children's Library, come meet acclaimed children's author and historian Ray Anthony Shepard who will read from his newest book Runaway - The Daring Escape of Ona Judge, a picture book biography of Ona Judge, a young enslaved woman who escaped the family of George Washington. Ray Anthony Shepard is a grandson of a slave, a former history teacher, and retired editor- in-chief of a major education publishing company.
