Holiday Book Sale returns -  The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library are hosting their popular Holiday Book Sale on December 2, 3 & 4 in the Goodwin Forum of the Main Library. The sale will feature nearly-new or gently used books, movies, and music for adults and children. Come for your holiday shopping and have a fun time! Concord’s literary heritage is an important part of the town’s history, including the work of Emerson, Thoreau, and the Alcotts as well as many distinguished contemporary writers. The Concord Free Public Library's newly-established Writer-In-Residence (W-R-I) Program is intended to continue this tradition, offering new ways to celebrate diverse voices and share stories through literary arts programming. The W-I-R Program will provide private office space to write in the Library’s newly-renovated historic wing as well as opportunities to connect with our devoted Concord Free Public Library community. Be Well Be Here and the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library present Writing as an Act of Humanity with Yung Pueblo on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum, Main Library. Be Present with author, poet, philosopher and mindful educator Diego Perez, known by 2.3 million Instagram followers as Yung Pueblo will discuss his brand new book, Lighter, as well as share mindful wisdom that inspires us all to seek ease, engage in Radical Honesty, cultivate caring relationships and show up for one another for the benefit of us all. The annual Leslie Riedel Memorial Lecture for Young People will present Concord author Rajani LaRocca on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum, Main Library. The lecture series was created in memory of Leslie Riedel by her family and friends so that young people could meet some of their favorite authors. Past speakers of the series include children's authors/illustrators David Macaulay, Chris Van Allsburg, Jerry Pinkney, Lois Lowry, Tomie dePaola, Grace Lin, Katherine Paterson, Kate DiCamillo and Robert Sabuda. 2022 Ruth Ratner Miller Award for Excellence in American History

The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library will present the 2022 Ruth Ratner Miller Award to Sean Wilentz on Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum of the Main Library. The event will kick off this year's Concord Festival of Authors (October 13 - 31). Sean Wilentz is the George Henry Davis 1886 Professor of American History at Princeton University. His primary research interests include U.S. social and political history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Tickets for the in-person event are $15 ($5 for students). They can be purchased (cash or check only) at the Barrow Bookstore or (using cash, check or PayPal) at the Main Library's Circulation Desk. The event can also be watched live on Zoom free of charge.
