November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The goal of NaNoWriMo is for budding novelists to write 50,000 words by November 30. Drop by the Fowler Branch at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on November 3 & 10 or the Main Library at 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.on November 17 & 24 to write the next chapter of your book. Open to all.
This year's Concord Festival of Authors will take place from October 1 - 31, a month of readings, workshops and discussions celebrating the written and spoken word. [View Event Schedule]
On Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. three mystery writers will discuss and read from their work in the Main Library Periodical Room. They are Hallie Ephron, Richard Cass, and Sheila Connolly, moderated by Kate Flora. The event is free and open to all.

Pulitzer Prize winner Professor John T. Matteson will speak at the Main Library on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. about the enduring nature of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. This event is in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of the book. Free and open to all.
The 2018 Ruth Ratner Miller Award for Excellence in American History will be presented to Annette Gordon-Reed, Pulitzer Prize Winner and Professor of History at Harvard Law School and Harvard University on Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library Rotunda. Tickets are available at the Main Library and the Concord Bookshop. Adults $15, Students $5. Sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library.
A public forum on the Library's expansion plans will take place on Thursday, October 18, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.. in the Concord Town House Hearing Room, at 22 Monument Street. Library Director Kerry Cronin and the Trustees will lead the forum. All are welcome.
A joint lecture by Joel Myerson, Carolina Distinguished Professor of American Literature, Emeritus, University of South Carolina and Daniel Shealy, Professor of English, University of North Carolina, Charlotte will take place on Saturday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Main Library. The annual Leslie Riedel Memorial Lecture for Young People will present children's author Kate DiCamillo on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library Rotunda.
