Music from the Library: Yuan Sheng, Piano
Music from the Library will begin its 22nd season by presenting pianist Yuan Sheng, a professor of piano at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Library Rotunda. Sheng has been hailed as China’s premier interpreter of Bach. He has performed in more than 20 countries around the globe as both a recitalist and concerto soloist and continues to add to his discography. Sheng’s program will include the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach as well as virtuoso works by Chopin and Debussy.
The series will continue March 2 with a performance by jazz composer/pianist Myra Melford, who will be joined by bassist Scott Colley and drummer Allison Miller. The final concert will be held April 28, when Indian music specialist and sarod player Ken Zuckerman will present a program of North Indian classical music featuring his own improvisation. He will be joined by tabla player Nitin Mitta.
