Ruth Ratner Miller Memorial Award for Excellence in American History: Robert A. Gross

Saturday, October 21, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Goodwin Forum, Main Library

This year's Miller Award recipient is Concord author Robert Gross. A specialist in the social and cultural history of the United States from the Revolution to the Civil War, Robert A. Gross focuses particularly on New England. His first book The Minutemen and Their World received the Bancroft Prize in American History. His latest book The Transcendentalists and Their World was chosen by the Wall Street Journal as one of the ten best books of 2021. Book signing and reception to follow.

The Ruth Ratner Miller Memorial Award for Excellence in American History was established in 1998 and is sponsored by her four children to honor the life of their mother, Ruth Ratner Miller, who believed passionately that understanding history was not merely desirable but a civic and religious duty.

The lecture is an in-person event. Tickets can be purchased (cash or check only) at the Barrow Bookstore and the Concord Bookshop at $15 for adults, $5 for students. Digital tickets are $16 ($6 for students) through Zeffy. Generously funded by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library.
