In February of 1854, Frances (Fanny) Rice of Concord, daughter of William and Mary Rice, married clerk Charles H. Eaton (described in the Concord marriage record as a resident of Detroit at the time). Their daughter Fanny was born here the following January. Mrs. Eaton died in 1855, at the age of twenty-one, two months after her wedding anniversary and three months after the birth of her child. This photograph, probably taken around the time of the Eatons' wedding, freeze-frames a moment of hopeful expectancy in what turned out to be a brief shared life. |
