Alfred Munroe (Concord). Joseph S. Richardson, ca. 1888.
From a glass plate negative, presented by Henry Francis Smith.
Salesman Joseph S. Richardson, older brother of lifelong Concord resident and local historian Laurence Eaton Richardson, was born in Concord in January of 1884. He was the son of grocer and farmer Henry P. Richardson and his wife Maria Smith Richardson. Joseph's mother Maria was a granddaughter of Strawberry Hill Road farmer Joseph Smith. Joseph Richardson was thus related to Edwin Joseph Smith, a childhood photograph of whom is also shown in this display (see #7). Comparison of their portraits reveals a persistent family resemblance. |
