Concord farmer Joseph A. Smith was the son of Joseph and Sarah Smith of Strawberry Hill Road (their farmhouse the present 498). He and his wife, the former Rebecca Brooks of Acton, had six children, among them Edwin Joseph, shown here.

Edwin Joseph was born in Concord in 1856. He died in 1861, at just five years of age, not long after this photograph was taken.
