Bottom of the image faces westerly, towards Monument Square. That edge will have the main door to the Town House, as shown in the photographs of the site.
7. Thoreau Survey of the Town House Site, 1850
This section of Thoreau's "Plan of the Court House Grounds and Adjacent Lots, in Concord Mass. Surveyed by Henry D Thoreau June 13th 1850" (survey number 7a in the Concord Free Public Library Thoreau survey collection) shows the future Town House lot. Thoreau also prepared a separate survey of the Town House lot (survey number 7d).
