12. The Middlesex Burns

As reported in the Concord Freeman (June 13, 1845), the Middlesex Hotel burned to the ground on Tuesday, June 10, 1845. Firemen and neighbors responded quickly to the alarm, containing the blaze to the hotel itself. Its stable was undamaged, as were the nearby county buildings. Owner Thomas Wesson had insurance on the property, manager John Wilson on his furniture and other personal effects. The Concord Artillery sustained the loss of swords, belts, standard, and uniforms stored in the hotel.
