A bible society meets in the hotel

7. A Bible Society Meeting at the Middlesex Hotel

Lemuel Shattuck, Concord’s first systematic historian, was involved in community life during his ten-year residence here (from 1823 to 1833). He helped to organize and superintended the first formal Sunday school at the First Parish, and served on the School Committee. He prepared the town’s first annual School Committee report in 1830. As revealed by this 1829 reminder to “Samson” (Sampson) Mason about an upcoming meeting at the Middlesex Hotel, Shattuck was also a Bible Society member.
