22. Preparations for Opening the Concord Free Public Library
On April 19, 1873, the Library Committee issued a printed handbill announcing the closing of the library from May 10th to July 1st to prepare for the transfer of holdings to the new building, and encouraging the donation of books and pamphlets by Concord residents. On June 26th, the Committee published another handbill stating that it would not be possible to reopen on July 1st due to the unexpected quantity of donations received.
Also prior to the dedication and opening of the new building, the Corporation prepared detailed regulations for the library’s operation, documented in the records of its September 20, 1873 meeting.
