The Concord Free Public Library submits to the town its fifty-eighth Annual Report, showing by the accompanying reports of its Treasurer, Auditing Committee and Librarian the amount and condition of its property, the additions to it and the uses made of it during the year 1930.

The Loring N. Fowler Memorial Library

The dedication of the Loring N. Fowler Memorial Library had to be delayed owing to errors in the measurements made by one of the sub-contractors.

The services were held on Sunday, May 5, at 5 P.M. Hon. Frederic C. Chase, Rev. Alfred Wheeler Stone, Samuel Hoar, Esq., Edward F. Loughlin, Esq., Mr. William Wheeler, and Rev. William J. Batt, D.D., took part. Hon. Prescott Keyes presided.

We plan that the cost of the Loring N. Fowler Memorial Library should ultimately be paid from Mr. Fowler’s bequest.

We have therefore set up on our books an account called “The Loring N. Fowler Memorial Library Memorandum Expense account.” The debits and credits to this account for 1930 appear in the report of our Treasurer.

The balance $43,180.41 will form a new debit to that account for 1931, to which the 1931 distribution of income will be debited and the interest accruing in 1931 from the Town will be credited.

The corporation expended for fuel, light and water in 1930:

For the Main Library:

Fuel, Light and Water
$1,107.09
For the West Concord Branch:

Fuel and Light
280.56
For the Fowler Memorial Branch:

Janitor, Fuel, Light and Water
686.49
  $2,074.14

We therefore recommend that the sum of $2,074.14 be appropriated and paid to the Corporation for maintenance and care of the Library, its West Concord Branch and its Fowler Memorial Branch during the year 1931.

Appended hereto is a copy of the contract made with the Town in accordance with the vote passed at the Annual Meeting of 1929.

WILLIAM WHEELER,

President
