Mr. A. Bates'

agreement

I Adolphus Bates of Concord hereby give my consent that the Town of Concord and the Honble. Commissioners of highways for the County of Middlesex shall, at such time as may be to them convenient, but before the 1st day of June 1872, cut off and add to the street in front of my house, so much of my land as is necessary to widen the said street to sixty-six feet. Conditional however, that my house and … building, shall be moved back so that the front of the street shall be on a line with Geo M. Barretts house nearby, and a Deed given me of so much as Jonas Hastings adjoining land, as shall be required for the purpose.

My house to be set on as good a celler [sic] walls and foundation as now, and to be raised up about two feet or as much as I shall then decide. The house to be left in as good Condition as it is at present. All this without expense to myself.

The button wood tree standing in front of my house to be removed. Annexed is a plan showing the present position of my house and tree in Black –and my proposed change of position in red lines.

I, Adolphus Bates of Concord, Middlesex County and State of Massachusetts, hereby acknowledge the fulfillment of the terms of the above written Document. And I do hereby accept the said fulfillment with the sum of one Dollar, the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge, as a full and satisfactory Consideration for the land taken from my Estate to widen the Main Street to sixty-six feet ---
