26. A Centennial Program, 1875

The 1875 centennial of the fight at the North Bridge on April 19, 1775 was a high point in Concord's ceremonial life. The town planned its elaborate celebration carefully, and sent invitations to numerous towns, representatives of state and national government (President Ulysses S. Grant and members of his cabinet included), historical organizations, and distinguished people. The Social Circle in Concord (a local men's organization) sponsored the Grindall Reynolds lecture publicized in this broadside. The program, held in the Town Hall, complemented the municipal celebration. Grindall Reynolds, a member of the Social Circle, was minister of the First Parish in Concord from 1858 to 1881, and an author on historical and religious topics.
