16. Kossuth at the Town Hall, 1852
In 1851, Hungarian statesman and patriot Lajos Kossuth traveled to America seeking financial support for his homeland. This broadside announces his visit to Concord on May 7, 1852. Kossuth viewed the Battle Ground and the site of the old North Bridge before proceeding to the Town Hall, where Ralph Waldo Emerson formally greeted and introduced him.
