Family History:  Items belonged to descendents of the George Wheeler line of Concord Massachusetts.

Ester Howe, born on Oct 17, 1768, married November 22, 1789, mother of Elizabeth Wheeler.  Elizabeth Wheeler died January 23, 1877, mother of Elizabeth Gibbs. Elizabeth Gibbs is the grandmother of Donald Crowell.

Mrs. Charles Alfred Hubbard (Nancy M. Wheeler Hubbard) was born March 6, 1827 to Elisha and Eleanor Wheeler married Charles Alfred Hubbard on November 27, 1845, and died on March 17, 1885.  Charles Alfred Hubbard was born on October 9, 1820 to Cyrus and Susanna Hubbard and died on April 21, 1889.  Elbridge Wheeler, sister to Nancy M. Wheeler was born on October, 31, 1832.  He married Susanna P. Wetherbee on March 23, 1867 and died on December 10, 1878.

Scope and Content:  This collection consists of six items, three family Bibles, two pieces of woven linen, and a letter.  Items of note: two of the family Bibles contain detailed family history information.

  • Inscribed with birth and death records dating between 1783 and 1880.  Includes information about Elisha Wheeler, Eleanor Towes, Eleanor Wheeler, Mary Wheeler, Joel Wheeler, Hannah Wheeler, Nancy Wheeler, William Wheeler, Lucy Wheeler, Henry Wheeler, Elbridge Wheeler, Elisha W [last name illegible], Mary Wheeler, Joel Wheeler, Hannah Wheeler, Nancy Wheeler, Lucy Wheeler, Elridge Wheeler, Eleanor Whitman, Abigail Powers.
    • Affixed to the family records pages are newspaper clippings including, poems, marriage announcements, and obituaries for Lizzie A, Eleanor W. Coburn, Dr. Bartlett, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
    • Affixed to the Marriages section of the family records page is an unidentified photograph.

  • Family record dating from 1783 to 1878 for Elisha Wheeler, Eleanor Wheeler, Mary Wheeler, Jowl Wheeler, Hannah Wheeler, Nancy Wheeler, Lucy Wheeler, Elbridge Wheeler, Joseph Whitman, Nathan Wheeler, George Wheeler, and Robert Richard.

Correspondence: from Elizabeth W. Gibbs, daughter of Elizabeth Wheeler to grandson Donald Crowell dated June 17, 1900.

  • Letter has incorrect death date of Elizabeth Wheeler, Concord records have her dying January 23, 1877, not January 28, 1878 as the letter states.

Cloth: Two pieces of cloth described in previous letter.  “The smaller piece being a part of one of her sheets, the larger being a piece of a pair of pillow slips.” Spun and woven by Ester Howe. Background image of this webpage is a scan of a piece of linen.
