MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY/COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS PRINTED RECORDS AND DOCUMENTS COLLECTION, 1714-1865
VAULT A5, UNIT C2
EXTENT: 2.75 linear ft. (2 containers).
ORGANIZATION AND ARRANGMENT: Organized into two series: I. Printed volumes, 1714-1786; II. Broadside and forms, 1756-1865.
Scope and Content: the Massachusetts Archives at Columbia Point in Boston (220 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125; 617 727-2816) is the official repository for records created by Massachusetts state government. (For a synopsis of the holdings of the Massachusetts Archives and related agencies, visit http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arccol/colidx.htm.)
The collection here described is an artificial grouping of a small number of state documents from various sources. It is of little use for in-depth research into state law, history, operations, etc., for which the coherent collection of the Massachusetts Archives should be consulted.
The Third Balcony Collection of the Concord Free Public Library houses some state documents which may dovetail with items in this collection.
The collection consists of bound printed volumes or disbound portions of bound printed volumes of acts, laws, resolves, and charter, dating from 1714-1786, and of one broadside and four forms—A Proclamation … [concerning] An act for preventing the Exportation of Provisions and warlike Stores … (1756), three printed Massachusetts form tax warrants filled out for Lancaster (1779 Jan., Apr., and Sept.), and Benjamin Tolman’s copy of a 36 page printed Massachusetts form titled Statistics of certain Branches of Industry, as they existed in the Town of Concord [“Concord” supplied in manuscript] … (1865).
