ORGANIZATION AND ARRANGEMENT: Organized into a single sequence; arranged chronologically.

BIOGRAPHY: Peter Bulkeley (1583-1659) of Bedfordshire in England was a founder and the first minister of Concord, Mass. John, one of Peter’s sons, was born in and returned to England, where he died in 1689. Peter, another of Peter’s sons, was born in Concord in 1643, died there in 1688. Rebecca, his wife, was born in Concord in 1645 to Joseph and Sarah Wheeler; married Peter in 1667; mother to Edward, Joseph, John, and Rebecca; widowed in 1688, remarried (to Jonathan Prescott) in 1689; died in 1717. Capt. Joseph Bulkeley, son of Peter and grandson of Peter the founder of Concord, was born in 1670, married Silence Jeffrey (his second wife) in 1713. Peter (born 1721) and Charles (born 1724) were two of the children of Capt. Joseph and Silence.

SCOPE AND CONTENT: Papers (1621-1758) include: power of attorney granting George Bunker the right to act on behalf of Peter Bulkeley in relation to property transaction in Bedfordshire, 1620 [i.e. 1621] Jan. 3; will of Peter Bulkeley, 1658 Apr. 14; deed, John Bulkeley (of London) to Thomas Brandon, 1663 Oct. 20; account by Rebecca Wheeler Bulkeley of funeral expenses for her husband Peter, 1688 May 25; deed, William Stoughton (of Dorchester), Thomas Hinchman (of Chelmsford), and Francis Burroughs (of Boston), administrators of the estate of Peter Bulkeley, to Stephen Hosmer (of Concord), 1693 Feb. 23; miscellaneous papers (primary receipts), 1725-1758, relating mainly to Capt. Joseph Bulkeley, his wife Silence, and their sons Peter and Charles.

Robichaud, 1994.

NOTES/COMMENTS: 1658 will and 1688 funeral expenses available on microfilm, for use in Library. 1658 will cleaned, deacidified, encapsulated, and matted at NEDCC, 1986. 1693 deed removed from frame, cleaned, deacidified, backed, and encapsulated.
