Elizabeth Hoar had been engaged to Emerson’s brother Charles when the latter died of turberculosis in 1836.  Thereafter she was treated as a member of the Emerson family, and the children called her “Aunt Lizzy.”  She often helped as a copyist for Emerson and was a friend of Fuller’s.  Here, she comments on the activities of the Emersons, Bronson Alcott, and Charles Lane.
