WINGS OF DESIRE (West Germany/France 1987)
Inspired by art depicting angels visible around West Berlin wall.  A film about invisible, immortal angels in Berlin who listen to the thoughts of Berlin’s human inhabitants, comforting the distressed. The immortal angels see life in black-and-white while humans see   the world in color.  Director: Wim Wenders. English subtitles. (127 min. A film about Beethoven's tumultuous life and his Immortal Beloved, the name given by to an unknown woman in a famous love letter.  Beethoven's secretary and biographer, Anton Felix Schindler, attempts to ascertain the true identity of Beethoven’s Immortal Beloved. THE BLUE ANGEL (Germany 1930, B&W)
The film that catapulted Marlene Dietrich to international stardom.  After learning of his pupils' infatuation with a local nightclub songstress, Professor Rath decides to personally investigate shadowy Blue Angel nightclub. As soon as he enters, he steals a glimpse of the smoldering Lola-Lola.  Directed by Josef von Sternberg. (104 min. NR. RUN LOLA RUN (Germany 1998)
This thriller, in three episodes, follows Lola who needs to obtain 100,000 Deutsche Mark in twenty minutes to save her boyfriend Manni's life. Mani handled a smuggling job, delivered the loot, collected the payment, left the bag on the subway, and now has only 20 minutes to finish the job. Director: Tom Tykwer. (80 min.  R)
