ORGANIZATION AND ARRANGEMENT: Organized in two series consisting of three scrapbooks and loose materials, each arranged chronologically.

HISTORY: The Concord Community Chest was created in 1947 when seven separate community fund-raising organizations were combined to form an organization independent of its predecessor, the Concord Division of the Greater Boston Community Fund (Red Feather Campaign). Carlisle joined the organization in 1968, forming the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest. The mission of the organization is to strengthen the community by raising money and giving responsibly to a broad range of human service organizations.

In 1947 money raised by the Concord Community Chest was donated to organizations such as the Visiting Nurse Association, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Emerson Hospital, the Salvation Army, and the U.S.O. In 2000, the following were among the organizations receiving funds from the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest: Concord-Assabet Family and Adolescent Services, FISH of Concord, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Minute Man ARC for Human Services, and Open Table, Inc. Funds are raised through the annual community campaign, special events, and bequests. In 2000 the organization raised $663,350 to support twenty-seven Concord and Carlisle community organizations.
