history:
Business partnership dealing in cutting and sale of firewood in Concord, Mass.  Formed in fall of 1917 by Prescott Keyes, co-owner with his sisters and with Philip Keyes Walcott of land on which Peter Hutchinson (black hog-killer who died in 1881) had lived.  Keyes hired John J. Dee to manage the company.  In 1918, Stedman Buttrick (1864-1925) bought the land on which stood the company’s wood and arranged with Keyes for the cutting and marketing of the remaining wood.  The transaction was completed in 1926, after Buttrick’s death, by his son Stedman (1901-1969).

Scope and Content: Records (1917-1929) include: correspondence; typed copy of deed (Prescott Keyes to William L. Dee, 1927 Apr. 4); summary financial statements, [1917]-1929; individual accounts, invoices, and receipts, 1918-1921; material (correspondence, time sheets, notes, estimate) relating to woodcutting done by William Monson and others for the company, 1917-1918; material (invoices and correspondence) relating to attempt by Keniston Engineering Company of Boston and by its collection agency Commercial Credit Company (branch office Worcester) to collect payment on a bill submitted to Peter Hutchinson & Company, 1918-1919.
