Instructions for setting up your browser to view the Newspaper pages

The page images are TIFF files, the same format the U.S. Government uses for Patent documents. Your browser will need a plug-in to view these pages. For browsers on a PC, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome, we reommend the AlternaTIFF plugin - a free download you can obtain here. Follow their instructions for installation. If you have already installed the Quick Time player from Apple, you will need to modify the settings so that TIFF images are not displayed with Quick Time. The Alterna instructions tell you how to do that.

If you are using Internet Explorer, you may get warnings that the pages are asking to load active content. This is for functions that help the display be more useful, and you should allow them.

For the Mac, Safari already has the Quick Time player installed and integrated. However, Safari may not display the images successfully. An alternative is the Accel plug-in available here. It will work with Firefox on a Mac.
